Day 1-2
Lhasa
Commence your Tibetan exploration with a leisurely stroll along Lhasa's historic Barkhor street, where ancient temples echo tales of centuries past, allowing you to delve into Tibet's cultural heritage. While adjusting to the high altitude, the city's unique charm and lively atmosphere will captivate your senses.
The monumental Potala Palace, divided into the White and Red Palaces, provides a window into Tibet's rich history. Discover intricate bas-relief rock carvings on Chakpori Hill, testaments to the region's ancient legacy dating back over a millennium. A visit to the serene Ani Tsamkhung nun's convent, adorned with vibrant flowers, offers a peaceful interlude. In the afternoon, witness the spirited debates at Sera Monastery, a vibrant display of Tibetan philosophical discussions.
Jokhang Temple, established in the 7th century, houses the revered statue of Jowo Sakyamuni, cementing its status as one of Tibet's holiest pilgrimage sites. Later, journey to Ganden, a sprawling monastic city and former religious epicenter of Tibetan Buddhism. Explore its sacred temples and follow the pilgrim kora, a hallowed circuit where dedicated Tibetan pilgrims engage in spiritual rituals. Enjoy a picnic lunch against the backdrop of the Kyi Chu Valley and the majestic Nyenchen Thanglha peaks.
Day 3
Tsedang: cradle of Tibet
We head out across the vast Tibetan Plateau to the beautiful Yarlung Valley, cradle of Tibetan civilization. It was from this valley in the 7th century that the early Tibetan kings unified Tibet. We will go to visit the 8th century Samye, Tibet’s first Buddhist monastery, whose remarkable murals are an encyclopedic representation of Tibetan culture and religion. Samye is laid out in the form of a giant mandala, with its 108 chapels built into a great circular stone wall. According to Buddhist cosmology, its fantastic architecture mirrors the structure of the universe. The vibrant murals offer a rare glimpse of the artistry of the master painters who once flourished in Tibet. While here, we may have an opportunity for an optional 1- to 1.5-hour hike (round-trip) up Hepo Ri hill, a holy site overlooking the monastery. Return to Tsetang and visit the ruined hilltop fortress of Yumbu Lhakhang.

Day 4-5
Old towns of Tibet:
On the way to Gyantse, beautiful sesstings of vista unfolds before your eyes. Ascend the Kamba-la pass the turquoise waters of Lake Yamdrok, as a jewel cradled by the mountains. Continue to the Karo-la pass, revealing the glaciers of the Nyenchen Kangsang Mountains. Gyantse, an ancient town steeped in history, awaits. Its iconic Gyantse Kumbum, a mandala-shaped marvel, showcases the artistry of 15th-century Newari artisans, its murals impeccably preserved in Tibet's arid climate. Nearby, Pelkor Chode Monastery, founded in 1418, offers a glimpse into Tibet's spiritual heritage. Journey onwards to Shigatse, a city where history and devotion merge. Explore Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, with its grand hall and precious relics, and marvel at the towering Maitreya Buddha statue. This Tibetan journey unveils nature's wonders and the echoes of centuries past.
Day 6-8
Path to Mt. kailash
Our journey towards the sacred Mount Kailash begins at Everest Base Camp (EBC), the route takes us through towering mountain ranges and across several high passes, along the way, we're blessed with opportunities to pause at various viewpoints and witness the grandeur of the world's highest peak. Rongbuk, the planet's highest monastery. Here, a short walk towards EBC offers a close-up view of Earth's loftiest summit.
Continuing on our odyssey to Mount Kailash, we traverse enchanting landscapes. Our path guides us alongside the Phelku Tso lake, cradled by snow-capped peaks that seem to reach the heavens. In this picturesque setting, you'll catch a glimpse of Shishapangma, a stunning addition to the already mesmerizing scenery.
Our journey pushes forward towards the sacred Manasarovar Lake, celebrated for its vibrant and enchanting colors. As we meander along its shores, we soak in the natural splendor that unfolds before our eyes. Our night's rest awaits in a small guesthouse, where we prepare ourselves for the wonders that lie ahead in the days to come.
Day 9-12
Sacred Kora
The sacred Kora, a profound pilgrimage, spans approximately 52km from Darchen. Following a small trail in a clockwise circuit around Mt. Kailash, we walk in the company of local Tibetan pilgrims who share in the spirituality of this journey. After a 5-6 hour hike, we reach Drirapuk Monastery, nestled harmoniously in the landscape. Our shelter for the night is a nearby guesthouse, where we are privileged with a majestic view of the north face of the sacred peak, Mt. Kailash, its spiritual aura palpable in the surroundings.
The following day brings us to the most challenging segment of our trekking journey, the Dolma La pass (5630m). While not exceptionally steep, the high altitude demands great effort. Yet, the reward is immeasurable as we reach the summit and are blessed with a front-row seat to behold the sacred Mt. Kailash in all its majestic glory. After a brief rest, our descent leads us into a long valley, where we pause for a nourishing lunch at the Shabjay Dakpo nomadic tent. Continuing on our path, we arrive at Dzultripuk Monastery (4803m), a place steeped in religious significance, having been erected by two eminent figures, Milarepa and Naro Bon-Chung. Inside the cave, the imprints left by Milarepa's hands and feet serve as poignant reminders of the spiritual history contained within these walls.
Our transformative journey progresses, culminating in the day when the Kora is complete, final leg of the kora a distance of 9km which is relative ease. With the Kora concluded, we board a shuttle bus back to Darchen, carrying with us a profound sense of spiritual fulfillment and the belief that this circumambulation of a holy mountain absolves one of sins and miseries for a lifetime, as per Buddhist belief.
Day 13-14
Lost kindom of Gugu
The Guge Kingdom, ensconced in a remote and mystical clay forest land, holds profound significance in the annals of Tibetan history. Its impressive ruins beckon intrepid travelers, offering a glimpse into a bygone era. Among the remnants of this ancient kingdom, Tholing Monastery stands as a testament to its cultural and spiritual heritage. Founded by a renowned Tibetan translator in the 10th century, this monastery boasts ancient murals and architectural marvels crafted in the distinctive style of the ancient Yarlung dynasty. Notably, Indian temple design elements permeate the structures, resulting in a harmonious fusion of influences that adds to the site's allure. As you explore these remarkable ruins, you'll be transported through time, delving into the stories and legends that continue to resonate. The Guge Kingdom's ruins, set against a backdrop of otherworldly landscapes, are an exceptional attraction that leaves an indelible mark on all who venture here.
Day 15-17
Return journey
As your pious journey around Mt. Kailash comes to a close, you'll find solace in a serene walk along the shores of Lake Manasarovar, with the majestic Mt. Kailash standing tall in the background. This tranquil experience allows you to connect deeply with the sacred lake, its crystal-clear waters mirroring the Himalayan peaks that surround it. Nature and spirituality harmonize in this breathtaking setting, providing a profound sense of peace and connection. With this peaceful stroll, your pilgrimage around Mt. Kailash concludes, and we proceed to Zhongba for the night. The following day, we venture into the Gyirong Valley, often referred to as the backyard garden of the Himalayas. Here, lush forests and pristine air embrace you, creating a captivating natural haven. At the Gyirong border, your tour guide will assist with the necessary documents for customs, bidding you farewell. If you choose, we can arrange a jeep transfer from Gyirong to Kathmandu, a picturesque journey of approximately 10 hours, concluding your remarkable odyssey through this sacred land.
